Anyone else getting harrassed by telemarketers?
Leslie JL asked:
Over the last few days I have gotten over 40 calls from different companies who ask for me by name and they all say that I filled out a form online for more information regarding their company. I have gotten calls to refinance my car, morgage a new home, go to college in Colorado, debt management.. they dont stop. None of them can tell me where I signed up on the internet to receive information. They also have told me they have my e-mail address and give me one that used almost 8 to 10 years ago. Any advice? Anyone else getting this?
I am also on the Do Not Call list.

You have to be careful when submitting anything online. Any company online may act as a data provider for another company and can freely and openly distribute your data without your knowledge only because the fine print before clicking I Accept
Ever fill out a small form to win a car? That’s a lead that goes out to these service providers as well.
All it takes is one submission and your information is continulously sold over and over again. Also, if you’re on the DNC - any company that has already provided you services can contact you for services in the future within a certain time frame.
I know it’s a hassle, but what I’ve found the best way to get out of these is simply never to provide accurate data. When applying for a mortgage - only leave your email address.
Your data is simply getting recycled over and over.

Beside being on the do not call list, you also need to OPT Out. You can do this on line and then you cannot be solicited based on your credit report.
If you do business with one company say Bank of America, Bank of America can then share your information within their own companies. You can also call them and tell them not to share your information with their other companies (credit card, mortgage, insurance, investments , etc). Some of these big companies own 10 or 20 companies in total.
Also when these people call immediately ask them for the name of their company, their name and the phone number they are calling from. They must provide you with this information but they usually hang up first. It not, tell them to immediately put you on their DNC list.
Good luck, it really gets annoying
