I paid $1040 2-4-11 of $1750 needed before 2-28. Then on 2-23-11 decided not to file bankruptcy & requested a refund. I received an itemization 3.5 hrs & refund of $165. I was billed at $250/ hr including charges for the free consult. I disputed the refund indicating I didn’t sign a contract. The attorney admitted as stated on the consult estimate that a separate contract should have been provided to sign upon retaining his services & refunded $500. A contract beyond the initial consult was never provided or signed. Am I entitled to the full amount?

My husband started a joint checking account today at a new bank for no good reason. We already have a checking account at another bank. I asked him previously not to do this. He and the lady at the bank thought it would be ok to do without me there or my permission or ID and just use the my signature they had on file there from our personal loan paperwork. Is this legal?
No he doesn’t have power of attorney. And as far as the bank lady saying I was there, they don’t have my actual signature on paperwork, so she would have a hard time explaining no actual signature if I wasn’t there. And also I would be on the bank security videos if I was there…right? I know that is taking it a little far, but still. I would consider taking action against her, but not my husband simply because he is just not so bright when it comes to these types of things.

I have this white collar felony that I got probation for and it seems like that once they get to that part I am dead in the water; I didnt embezzle money; kill anyone; hack into a computer; it was more of a conspiracy thing either way its a felony and even though I have never stolen or done anything wrong at any one of my jobs except been stellar I am stuck in the mud; it seems like I will never get a job; whats funny is i could have easily made a deal to get a misdeamnor but I did not thing i would get anything much less a felony; i had idiot attorneys i paid over 100k to for nothing; i could have done it myself; so frustrating; if i knew how impossible it would be for me to get a job then i would have just taken the deal; i am 33 with a stellar resume but once they do the background even though its not a huge deal i am toast any help would be appreciated; thanks

It has been discharged and I am free of this debt. My ex wife wants to take me to civil court for this loan because since I filed bankruptcy they then came after her the co signer. Is she able to sue me for this and win?

I filed a Chapter 7 bankruptcy that should have been completed in July or August at the very latest. My lawyer claimed to have not received my certificate of completion for the post bankruptcy course and let it go. My case was discharged before he told me anything was wrong. I’d called a few weeks before and was told everything was fine ad I’d receive confirmation soon. I was able to prove that he received the certificate and he paid the fee to reinstate my case. I planned when to file so that a year later I could co-sign on a home loan with my husband when he got back from Iraq. Now it’s just been filed and my 1 year mark will be 5 months later so my husband will come home from Iraq and we won’t be able to buy a house. This was hard enough and now he’s made it even worse. We’d have to come up with 15% down at least to get a loan. Can I sue my lawyer for his incompetence and this inconvenience. I’m not looking for free $, I’m just really frustrated and heart broken! You don’t know my whole situation and you don’t have to be a jerk. I wasn’t scamming anyone, I stopped working when my daughter died and we couldn’t affort one income at the time. It’s better to pay on a house than to waste money renting so we weren’t planning a scam we were planning to recover from this nightmare!
I can prove he got the certificate because the company I took the course through has the email and fax conformation. I have already spoken to several lenders and they all say 1 year.
